10K Race

Well, I did it! I ran my first 10k! Last Saturday the conditions could not have been more perfect. It was an absolutely gorgeous day in Milwaukee. As we ran, we enjoyed a beautiful view along Lake Michigan. My friend, Stacy, and I trained together, and stayed together throughout the race. I hope we will run many more races together.

It took about 66 minutes to complete the course, or a 10:39 pace. Not exactly a Boston Marathon qualifying time, but that’s fine with me. Training for this race has been a great journey. It has strengthened friendships, strengthened my own body, kept me focused, and given me a new confidence in my abilities. As you can see below, I have a great little training buddy and fan!

Have a great weekend!

Hey guys! Race day is coming up in few days (eek!) and I have a few more thoughts I’ve been wanting to share. This time, about the power of proper shoes.

Now, by a proper pair of shoes, I mean shoes from an actual running store that have been fitted specifically for you. These stores have people who know what they are talking about, (not someone who just works in the shoe section) and usually have a shoe for almost any budget.
In the Milwaukee area we have a store called Performance Running Outfitters. They have a great selection of shoes as well as a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They watch you walk barefoot to see how your feet (work) and watch you jog on a treadmill to make sure your feet are pronating properly. The best things is they do this for each client who walks in the door- for free!

Friday Favorite- 5/28

Happy Friday! I hope your long holiday weekend is off to a great start!
Favorite BiteMini Pigs In A Blanket
I’m not even gonna lie, I made these for breakfast this morning. There is something about a little smokie and a crescent roll that is just so good.

Now, before you judge, let me explain. My husband used a couple vacation days so we could enjoy a long weekend together as a family. It’s his birthday weekend and we had a lot of fun activities planned. However, instead of the beach tomorrow, he has to get a root canal. Yep, a root canal, during vacation, right before his birthday. That’s like a triple whammy. No matter what happens, I am going to give him the best darn birthday weekend I can, root canal and all! Today that meant mini pigs in a blanket. Tomorrow it might mean milkshakes. 🙂

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Friday Favorites- 5/18

Hey guys! I hope you are all having a good week! It has been feeling more summer-like over here and it has been awesome. It was even warm enough to get out the kiddie pool!
This week, and probably from now on I will be posting just one favorite find each Friday. I have been finding that I do not have time for much more than that. Maybe I can come up with a fun new name for a new section on the blog. Until then, here’s what I found, and don’t worry, it’s good!
I like sweet potatoes so much I could eat one everyday (and sometimes I do!)  These burgers are easy to make, healthy and they look delicious! This would be a perfect meat free alternative to serve at a summer barbecue!
Happy Friday, and enjoy the weekend!!!

Friday Favorites- 5/11

Have a great weekend! Happy Mother’s Day! Thanks for all you do!

Mother’s Day Card

This weekend I had the pleasure of spending the day with my Mom. It was great. My hubby was gone, so us girls treated ourselves to a little early Mother’s Day shopping. Nothing grand, (as we spent more time at Toys R Us than the actual mall) but it was a lot of fun to hang out together!
In addition to shopping, I had a few gifts for my Mom. Some gourmet chocolate and an Amazon Kindle gift card went perfectly with this adorable homemade card. She of course, loved it!
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I thought I’d share how I made it. I started with two pieces of Micah’s artwork, a cute picture of him, a utility knife, and a glue stick. That’s it!
Both pieces of artwork were made on card stock using this Do-A-Dot Rainbow Art Set. The Do-A-Dot set is great. My son is 10 months old and he can do it all by himself. It’s less messy than painting, yet still creates great masterpieces! We used Do-A-Dots, but really any artwork will do.
*Toddler Tip: Tape all four edges of the paper to the table with a little painters tape. It makes this project much easier when there is not paper to crumple, rip or eat 🙂

Fold both of the pieces of paper in half. Keep one piece with the artwork on the outside, and one piece with the artwork on the inside. Next, mark and cut using an exacto knife, four small slits on the “inside” piece of artwork, one for each of the corners of the photo.

Then, place the photo’s corners in the slots that you have created.

Now, place the pieces of cardstock ‘white sides together.’ Using a glue stick, glue one half of the paper, and press evenly until the paper is smooth. Do it again on the other side of the card.

Put the card inside something heavy, such as a big book to help the card dry flat. It’s that easy! When the glue is dry, you can add any embellishments that you want. I wrote, ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ on the front of the card and Micah helped me add a couple foam flower stickers.

Happy early Mother’s Day to all you Mamas out there!
